Quinn began her journey as a fashion designer after coursework abroad in Florence, Italy (2004), which led to a Masters in Textiles in 2009 (North Carolina State University). Her graduate work culminated in directing and designing a collection for Art to Wear 2009 at North Carolina State University. The dessert-inspired collection showcased hand-dyed fabrics and the sculptural potential of silk. Since finishing her Masters, Quinn has pursued several fashion and art related opportunities including a stint at local designer, Raleigh Denim. For Spring 2010, Quinn created a collection of textile and apparel designs exploring the juxtaposition of color and pattern in garment. Pairing watercolor botanicals with geometrics inspired by Renaissance garden plans, Quinn investigates how and why patterns work together. Her most recent collection, for Fall 2010, involved a collaboration with Meghan Holliday, in which Quinn integrated Holliday’s hand-woven jacquard designs into an apparel collection.
Currently, Quinn is using her time outside the apparel industry to explore more conceptually driven fashion. Throughout her artistic exploits, fiber and otherwise, Quinn seeks to give voice to her experience of beauty in creation, both in humanity and the natural world. She has always been drawn to the concept of creating a space, mood, or environment through her work. To that end, she focuses on color, pattern, and texture whether in collage or wearable pieces. |
