Cayce Lee is from Winston-Salem, NC. She received her undergraduate degree from Duke University, majoring in Sociology and Visual Arts, with a focus on printmaking. Her professional career began in non-profit art education, which led her to teach elementary art in the Winston-Salem public school system. She moved to Raleigh in 2009, and is working on earning a Master of Art and Design in Fibers from NC State University.
Cayce’s current focus is on fiber sculpture and installation work with an emphasis on knit and crocheted structures using metal, plastic, and glass.
Her use of materials that reflect and filter light connects to a long tradition in textile history of interacting with metaphysical energies by creating artifacts that sparkle and shine. This luminescence is contrasted with the decay evidenced by metal as it rusts from exposure to the elements. Through her art, she is exploring how her experience connects to a continuum of time and energy on physical and spiritual levels. |
