In August of 2009, five fiber-minded individuals came together to consider how to bring attention to the resurgence of textile arts and fashion design in the area. As the conversation continued the common concepts of tradition, innovation, and the value of making further interwove the individuals and the Common Seam Collective was born.
The Common Seam Collective is a community of artists, designers, and craftspeople exploring fibers and textiles and developing our work through collaboration, critique, and education. From spinning yarn to fashion design, we seek to enrich our community by cultivating an interest in both old and new technological processes used in fibers and textiles.
As we continue our work through 2011, the Collective will focus its attention on securing a dedicated space to further our mission. Our goal is to create a space that will enable our members and guests to exchange skills and inspiration through dialogue, studio interaction, and professional development. Such a space would also allow the collective to hold workshops, exhibitions, lectures, and performances and in this way give back to the community that has nurtured us thus far. |
